Surroundings

Right across the road from your cabin you will find our farm where you can, of course, gain insight into the everyday life of alpine farmers. Our little guests will find lots of toys, a sand box, a playhouse, and children’s toys so they can help out with the grown-up’s work. You can read all about what there is to discover and experience at our farm in the current “Hofnachrichten”, our farm news!

The Martell valley presents numerous  hiking trails in the Stilfser Joch National Park through unspoiled scenery, shaped by alpine agriculture, calm and natural. From a simple stroll to ambitious mountain hikes to one of the peaks of the Ortler mountain group; thematic routes such as the “forest mountain farmer trail” or the “strawberry trail”; mountain pastures, Zufallhütte, Marteller Hütte or the leisure centre Trattla – these are just a few examples of what the valley has to offer.

From the Reschenpass to the city of Meran the Vinschgau furthermore offers ample opportunities for swimming, shopping, bicycling and exploring our culture and history.

Herbst und Winter:

After the summer the cattle and sheep return from the alpine pastures, which is traditionally and abundantly celebrated at the beginning of September at the “Marteller Almabtrieb”: the animals are decorated with intricate floral arrangements and then brought down from the mountains to the fairground to be presented and prized. This is a very popular event for locals and visitors alike!

The clear and brightly coloured autumn days provide opportunities for wonderful hiking trips with incredible views. Enjoy the quiet and peace in our mountains, far away from stress and precipitance. Or retreat into the cosy reading corner at the warm stove in your cabin.

Fresh mountain cheese, the apple harvest of different locally produced apple sorts, the “Törggelezeit” with freshly roasted chestnuts as well as typical South Tyrol products such as Knödel, bacon and wine wait to be tasted and enjoyed.

During the winter, the cabin becomes a cosy retreat. The stove provides ease and comfort. The meadow all around the cabin offers a great deal of space for sledging, building snowmen and snowball fights. The early dusk will leave you with ample time for reading and playing games together. And afterwards you can snuggle into your warm bed and sleep in…

Away from loud Ski tourism, the Martell valley offers quite a lot for winter guests: winter hiking trails, toboggan runs, cross-country skiing tours (equipment can be rented), the biathlon centre with various competitions, and of course the snowy mountain scenery for snow shoe hiking, ski tours and ice climbing (sledges, toboggans and snow shoes are available free of charge).

All those who would still like to spend a day on the piste can travel to the following skiing regions: Schnalstaler Gletscherbahnen, Meran 2000, Gletscherskigebiet Sulden, Trafoi im Ortlergebiet, Skigebiet Watles, Haider Alm as well as Schöneben.
